After passing CTA at the University of Pretoria, Nkonki was my firm of choice. After having completed my articles with Nkonki and also qualified as a Chartered Accountant through Nkonki, I can truly say that they equipped me with all the required knowledge and experience to be able to pass all my exams at first attempt and to be a competent Chartered Accountant that can compete at any stage.
Contrary to some myth that are out there about black firms, I found that Nkonki had enough clients in almost all the industry e.g Telecoms, Insurance, Pension funds, Debt collecting, Private Equity, Airlines, just to name a few to give me the required exposure. We also had a CEO, Sindi Zilwa, who is passionate about brewing CAs and she motivated us and empowered us with a positive attitude.
She was always directly involved in any motivational workshops that we would go through and would personally sit with us one on one and try and motivate us. Coming to Nkonki was the best career decision I have ever made.
The support that I have received from the firm has been terrific and has contributed immeasurably to my academic and professional development. I don’t think I could have asked for anything more from an employer. I started out as a bursary student and at that time the firm ensured that they made all the required payments on time and that I had all the study material, textbooks and support I needed to succeed in my studies.
The firm also made sure to maintain regular contact with me to ensure that I was ok both academically and on a personal level. Through my years of articles the firm ensured that we were provided with quality training so
that we were well prepared for the challenges at our audit clients. Seniors and managers were also always available to provide guidance where required.
The firm also ensured that we got exposure to a wide range of clients
to broaden our business outlook. The firm also continued to provide excellent academic support with generous leave being granted for us to write the required tests and exams, and more recently in-house lecturers have been brought in to assist students with their studies especially at CTA level.
Nkonki is full of friendly people who are always willing to help each other, have a laugh or two and who demonstrate care beyond the confines of the workplace – this makes Nkonki a fun place to work and has created a sort of family atmosphere which I have grown to really appreciate. I am now audit manager, and having left the firm for a period of about 4 months to explore other avenues, this was one of the reasons that attracted me back. The CEO also has great drive and inspires us all to be the best we can be at work and in our studies.
As a former bursary student of Nkonki and a current trainee accountant at the firm I am pleased to say that “NKONKI IS THE PLACE TO BE”.
As a bursary student I received a comprehensive bursary that included registration fee, tuition, residence fees, monthly allowance and a book allowance. I was further provided with an opportunity to do vacation work during University breaks. The vacation work provided me with the necessary exposure to the real world of auditing.
As a trainee accountant at Nkonki it has been a pleasure to work for the firm with a real culture of empowerment. Nkonki has provided me with the necessary exposure in the auditing profession with their diverse client portfolio. As part of my preparation for the SAICA and IRBA board exams, Nkonki gave me the necessary support and time that provided me with a fair opportunity to perform at my best.
The work environment at Nkonki is one to be proud of, its characterised by friendly and caring partners and managers, recognition of excellence and a culture that appreciates diversity. For all aspiring accounting and auditing professionals, “NKONKI IS THE PLACE TO BE”.
At NKONKI you will work at a level much higher than your counterparts in BIG 4 firms. NKONKI is not shy to give you responsibility and exposure to grow you in experience. Having joined the firm after articles and from a banking environment, I was pleased that the working environment is entrepreneurial and encourages individuals to excel both operationally and academically.
You are empowered to make decisions and given the freedom to run with assignments. You will not find Bureaucratic red tape here. I passed part 2 exams at NKONKI mostly because of the generous study leave, academic support and encouragement given. NKONKI places high priority in getting you through the Board Exam.
