Nkonki is JSE accredited to audit JSE listed companies.

jse logoThe JSE had appointed Nkonki Incorporated, a black accounting firm, as its accredited auditor to carry out audits of JSE-listed entities by itself. Nkonki, which has been practising for more than 17 years, has an in-house International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) advisor which has also been approved by the JSE. .


Sindi Zilwa, the founder and chief executive of Nkonki, said the firm had, from the onset, set itself a strategic intent to build credible intellectual capacity in the audit profession.

“Part of the firm’s vision is to earn global respect as accounting professionals instead of being seen only as a black firm,” Zilwa said.

“This accreditation…creates a platform to prove that our capabilities rank equally with those of established international firms on an audit to audit basis.”

Mitesh Patel, the managing partner at Nkonki, said the accreditation gave the firm the opportunity and the credibility to tap into new markets, especially the listed company audits.

Meanwhile, Steven Firer, Nkonki’s technical partner, said the auditing firm had received a thumbs-up from the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (IRBA).

Nkonki, among the country’s top accounting firms, is 100 percent black owned and 51 percent women-owned.

The firm has a total of 10 partners and directors and more than 150 staff members.

Nkonki offers services, which include external and internal audits, forensic audit, tax services, public sector outsourcing and staff secondments.

Its clients include Telkom, the Public Investment Corporation, South African Express, the University of South Africa, Thebe Investment Corporation, Indwe Risk Services, Etana, Export Credit Insurance, Safrican Insurance, Transnet Pension Fund, Financial and Fiscal Commission, Koorfontein Mines, University Of Limpopo, Bonitas Medical Fund, South African National Parks, Polmed, Teba Bank and Medicover.
