EXPERIENCE
Sindi Zilwa obtained her degrees Bcompt, Hons BCompt, CTA and Advanced Taxation Certificate through correspondence with UNISA. In 1990, she wrote the Final Qualifying Examination and passed at first attempt and became the second black woman Chartered Accountant in South Africa. She passed the Advanced Diploma in Banking at RAU in November 2003.
She served her articles of clerkship firstly with W.L. Nkuhlu and Co. in Umtata, and served the remaining 2 and a half years with Deloitte and Touche in Sandton. She lectured at UNISA's and UNITRA's postgraduate departments till 1993. She started practising in 1993 and co-founded Nkonki in May 1995, where she currently is the Chief Executive Officer and training officer of the firm.
She is the member of South African Institute of Chartered Accountant's Education Committee, a member of the Public Accountants and Auditors Board, a member of the SAICA Banking Project Group, a member of the GAAP Monitoring Panel and a non-executive director of Woolworths Limited, Primedia Limited, Eskom Limited and Discovery Limited.
Sindi is the Chairman of the Business Unity, South Africa's Standing Committee on transformation.
In 1991 she was nominated as one of the four finalists of the Cosmopolitan Mover of the year competition. In 1996 she received an award from UNITRA Commerce Students for the developmental role she played in the University student's career, and was nominated as one of ABASA's most active members. In 1998 she was nominated as South Africa's Businesswoman of the Year by the Executive Women's Club. In 1999, she was nominated as one of the Top 20 Business People in South Africa. In 2001 she was nominated as one of the Top 10 Business Personalities in South Africa by the Black Management Forum and Impumelelo Top 300 companies |
