Mzi Nkonki

Chairman

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Hons. Bcompt, CA (SA)

Mzi Nkonki is the co-founder of the original Nkonki firm which merged in 1996 to form Nkonki Sizwe Ntsaluba and later demerged in 2002. He is the now the Chairman of Nkonki. He obtained his Bcompt and CTA through correspondence from UNISA and later qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1991.

He did his training with W.L Nkuhlu and company in Umtata and was later an audit manager at PriceWaterhouse Meyernel (now PriceWaterhouse Coopers). Based in East London office he was servicing clients in East London, Bisho and Butterworth. Clients included Pep Textile, Butterworth Municipality, Ciskei Peoples Development Bank, Citizen Bank etc.

Mzi has been in charge of the Eastern Cape provincial offices and has taken the lead in various assignments which include the Eastern Cape Provincial government, Northen Province government, Department of Justice, the distribution division of Eskom, the cargo division of South African Airways locally and internationally, MTN and Mtel. In 1996 he did the status review of the Umtata Municipality where he was a leader in Finance Management Component.

His computer systems development includes a Bank Reconciliation System (was used by the Eastern Cape Government, Northern Province Government and Magwa Tea Corporation, and a debit order collection system (is used by the University of Forthare).

He was appointed a joint liquidator of Magwa Tea Corporation and was involved in running Magwa Tea Corporation, under liquidation until buyers of the company as a going concern were secured. The Estate has about 2000 employees and is involved in the planting and manufacturing of tea. His involvement included financial management and payroll administration, and he was also involved in the liquidation of Tracor and Ulimocor.

Mzi is an audit member of the Worker’s Compensation Fund and the Freedom Park Trust. He has been appointed as a member of the Standing Committee for the Revision of the Banks Act, 1990. The objective of the Standing Committee is to review the Banks Act and to make recommendations to the Minister of Finance with regard to amendments to Banks Act.
