Peter k. Njinu

Role and Experience
Mr Njinu has over 22 years in accounting, financial, treasury, business systems management. He is particularly interested in formulation and implementation of business strategy. His MBA research reports (2004) entitled “A model for successful strategy implementation” deals with this aspect of business management.
After University Mr Njinu joined Deloitte & Touche in Kenya where he trained as an accountant. He had wide experience audit and tax services in a large array of clients in the public and private sectors in East Africa.
For four years after qualifying as a CPA, he worked with Chloride Group, an automotive battery manufacturer and distribution company as the Financial /Group Chief Accountant Directors of Finance, Wasp Africa Limited
Served as a Director in-charge of leading business planning, financial management and fund raising for the company. The responsibilities included evaluation and advising on capital structure, fund-raising, feasible trends and growth patterns and evaluation the “key result areas”.
Head of Finance & Accounting ( Africa), SITA
Responsible for overall leadership and management of the accounting, financial and statutory compliance for SITA in Africa. The responsibilities included managing profitability trends, management information systems, accounting, tax, treasury and other statutory compliance functions.
Budgets Financial Controller ( Africa), SITA
Responsible for strategic plan and financial budget; a broad spectrum of planning and co-ordinating functions like:
- Translating budget drivers, targets and parameters to budget numbers and document for each country/unit;
- Consolidating of various countries’/units’ budgets and shepherd them through the global approval process;
- Review performance against the budget and when necessary to change the plans, evaluate and shepherd the approval for such changes.
In 2000/01 he served as the project manager for corporate-wide SUN-Accounting software system implementation for all the countries in the Africa region.
Finance & Admin Manager ( Eastern Africa Region), SITA
Responsibilities included leading finance, accounting, Human Resources and administration functions for the east Africa region. Carried out salary survey across the 7 major countries and benchmarked against the industry; reducing staff complaints and attrition and thereby enhancing customer service delivery to the customers.
Group Chief Accountant, Chloride Group
Responsibilities included designing, developing and advising the management on financial and accounting policy, managing financial and administrative systems and liaison with auditors and tax consultants for execution and completion of the annual audit and tax returns respectively.
Membership
Peter is a founder member and director for Wasp Africa Limited, a recently launched Wireless Applications Services Provider; a company that provide value-added services on back of GSM mobile phone networks in Kenya.
